The questions we hear most

Everyday we chat to people about the benefits of membership, talk teamsthrough the onboarding process, troubleshoottechnical issues and help membersget the most from their ORCID integration.

Here are some of the most common questions we get…

What is the Australian ORCID Consortium?

The ORCID Consortium is an open, not-for-profit, community-driven effort to create and maintain a registry of unique researcher identifiers and, by doing so, create a simple and transparent way of linking research activities and outputs. Our community is made up of like-minded organisations who understand this is critical to connecting Australia to the global research ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Joining the Consortium provides your organisation with premium ORCID membership benefits along with local technical support and a place in a genuinely engaged national community.

    Membership includes:

    • 5 member APIs, so you can connect up to 5 of your own systems to the ORCID registry
    • Access to Affiliation Manager, to add and update affiliation data
    • Update notifications via the member API, through webhooks
    • The ability to add or update information on ORCID records, with the researcher’s consent
    • Personalised local support including consultations and user-acceptance testing
    • Access to shared use cases and best practice from across the Consortium
  • For ORCID’s own outreach resources and examples, visit ORCID’s communications and outreach page. For examples from Australian Consortium members specifically, visit AAF-ORCID communications and outreach resources.

  • You’ll find everything technical here:

    • Sample workflows
    • API tutorials
    • ORCID’s GitHub pages

If your organisation is a Consortium member and you’ve got a specific question, contact us and we can help.

  • Yes. If your organisation has an ORCID integration, you can see how it’s actually being used.

Data includes how many researchers have connected their ORCID iD, how many records have been updated, and a timeline of iDs connected over time. It’s a straightforward way to show the value of your integration internally.

Consortium members get access to the ORCID Member Portal Reporting Dashboard for exactly this, with ORCID’s own documentation covering how to use it. If you have a question about the dashboard, get in touch and our team can assist.

  • The full ORCID logo should not be changed or altered. ORCID does have a separate Member Badge specifically for members to show their status – using it correctly, alongside the standard logo and in line with ORCID’s usage policy, keeps the experience consistent for researchers no matter which organisation’s ORCID page they land on, including when they move between organisations.

If you’re an Australian Consortium member and need the Member Badge, please get in touch and our team can provide this.

If you’re an ORCID member outside the Consortium, contact [email protected] directly.
